Xnee - GNU Project

GNU Xnee

Xnee is a suite of programs that can record, replay and distribute user actions under the X11 environment. Think of it as a robot that can imitate the job you just did. Xnee can be used to:

Automate tests	e.g nightly automatic regression tests
Demonstrate programs	e.g record and replay a user interaction with your system
Distribute actions	e.g teacher's actions can be sent to all student's desktops
Record and replay 'macro'	e.g Tie a key modifier combination (e.g using xrebind) to replay a recorded session. The macro is WM- and program independent.
Retype a file	e.g When testing an editor, Xnee can type in the content of a file. This can be compared with the original.

Downloading Xnee

GNU Xnee can be found on the main GNU ftp server: http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/xnee/ (via HTTP) and ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/xnee/ (via FTP). It can also be found on the GNU mirrors; please use a mirror if possible.
You can also find packages for most GNU/Linux distributions (and others) through www.sandklef.com/xnee/?q=node&q=download

Documentation for GNU Xnee is available online, as is documentation for most GNU software. You may also find more information about GNU Xnee by running info xnee or man xnee, or man cnee, or by looking at /usr/doc/xnee/, /usr/local/doc/xnee/, or similar directories on your system. A brief summary is available by running cnee --help.

Mailing lists

GNU Xnee has three mailing lists: <bug-xnee@gnu.org> and <info-xnee@gnu.org>.

The main discussion list is <bug-xnee@gnu.org>, and is used to discuss most aspects of GNU Xnee, including development and enhancement requests, as well as bug reports.

Announcements about GNU Xnee and most other GNU software are made on <info-gnu@gnu.org>.

To subscribe to these or any GNU mailing lists, please send an empty mail with a Subject: header of just subscribe to the relevant -request list. For example, to subscribe yourself to the GNU announcement list, you would send mail to <info-gnu-request@gnu.org>. Or you can use the mailing list web interface.

Getting involved

Development of GNU Xnee, and GNU in general, is a volunteer effort, and you can contribute. For information, please read How to help GNU. If you'd like to get involved, it's a good idea to join the discussion mailing list (see above).
